Constructed of a metal cabinet with reverse painted glass sign face. Illuminated by a yellow neon tube with transformer and works well. The motor that drives the outer perforated ring behind the glass that makes the neon appear to flash on and off, drawing your eye towards the sign is in need of repair or replacement, as it does not operate. The sign displays nicely but naturally shows areas of wear and tear and patina from age and use. The red reverse paint near the eagle at center is flaking off. The cord is shot and would certainly need to be replaced before use, as it is dangerous, degraded and bare in areas. All told a super rare and super cool old sign that with a little restoration would likely be the centerpiece of your collection! This 1940s sign is internally lit with neon and features a rotating wheel with the slogans for Berghoff Beer Tried Berghoff Lately? – A Real Honest Brew Since 1887 that is run by a clock motor. The sign has had the wood base repainted black and the outside metal ring has been repainted with black wrinkle finish paint. Reverse glass face on the outside had new black paint applied exactly like the original. The sign has an outer glass with a plastic advertisement sandwiched between it and another piece of glass. The plastic ad has a lighter colored line that goes from top to bottom between the Fs of the word Berghoff as seen in the picture. This is not a big deal but I want to point it out as it can be seen when it is not plugged in and lit up. Sign lights and runs very smoothly.
